As the founder of Practical Occult I know what it is like to be self employed and work to get a small business off the ground. It is amazing and rewarding to have the level of autonomy associated with being your own boss, but it’s a lot harder and more stressful than working for someone else. In this piece I will list some of the pentacles I have found most helpful, no matter the stage of business.
Second of Jupiter: With the boast of acquiring “glory, honours, dignities, riches, and all kinds of good, together with great tranquility of mind” this pentacle is the Practical Occult all-time bestseller. One doesn’t have to be in business for themselves to see the results of this powerful prosperity piece, but as a business owner when I am looking for extra sales, this is the pentacle I choose. While most discerning individuals select this pentacle for the riches, the effect of ‘tranquility of mind’ is not to be dismissed. Running a business can especially be very stressful for the first few years. This pentacle will help bring in money and take the edge off the anxiety.
Fifth of Mercury: “open doors” may be a vague description, but the results of this pentacle are anything but vague. While this pentacle has many uses, as a business owner I find myself most often using it to bring opportunities (open roads) and to overcome obstacles, especially bureaucratic obstacles*. I hardly have to explain the benefits of new business opportunities, but overcoming obstacles can save your business a lot of hassle. From the ability to get paperwork approved when it has been stuck- to getting a package that has been lost in the mail back en route, this pentacle has saved me an enormous amount of stress over the years. *for legal issues, please see the Solar Legal Victory pentacle.
Second of Venus: this is another pentacle with a vague description that mentions “grace and honor” and “accomplishing all thy desires”. In practical terms, when you wear this pentacle people will find you charming. Vendors, existing and potential clients and customers, even strangers will be more friendly. Working with this pentacle also causes an increase of customer reviews. This pentacle is helpful for everyone, but if your business involves putting yourself forward, this will help ensure the responses you get are more friendly and receptive.
Third of the Sun: for those seeking “kingdom and empire” the aggressive glamour of this pentacle is for you. Whether you are founding a startup, or looking for personal fame, this pentacle will blaze forth and impress those around you. You will be seen as a leader, and those in power around you will help you get ahead with free advice and favors. I almost always wear this pentacle (as one of the pentacles on my solar earrings) when I do media interviews. The Third of the Sun can also be engraved onto a business card holder with your company logo.
Jupiter Honor: this little-known pentacle for “honors and dignities” from the Veritable Key reminds us that money isn’t everything. Many businesses work very hard to build their reputation, because the future of the business can depend on it. But as a business owner- your reputation can be equally as important especially if you are the face of the business. Reputational threats can be especially hard to manage, and just being successful can attract haters. My experience with this pentacle has involved actively employing it when being slandered by rivals, to very good effect.
Depending on the nature of your endeavors, you may prioritize these pentacles differently than listed above. A startup that needs to get a local politician to pass a bill may go directly to the Third of the Sun, while a life coach may prefer the Second of Venus. Whatever you select, I hope to exceed your expectations.
