Living in a country where elections can have a huge impact on policies that mean life and death to people I care about, I hear much talk of how to get people to vote, and the importance of voting. Towards that end, several years ago a friend and I wrote a generic spell that is not specific to a political party, to get people to go to the polling places on Election Day. In the years since, we have tested it and found it to make a measurable impact. It is easily done as a solo practitioner and also makes a great group ritual. If it speaks to you, I encourage you to perform it. It was written using the imagery of US currency, but can be creatively adapted to your local currency.
Materials:
- Dimes
- Dish soap
- An altar, candle, and incense
- An offering
Steps:
- Clean and purify dimes (we washed them with running water and soaked them in a dish soap combination before polishing them with paper towels)
- Charge the dimes (we laid the dimes out, back side up, on a plate in the sun and connected to our solar spirits to help charge them. Do whatever works for you. The sun is also cleansing.)
- Set up the altar, include an offering (we used olives)
- Invocation / consecration (open the ritual in the method you would normally use, then call Athena and ask for the consecration)
Athena Adamatos – unconquerable
Athena Nikiforos – she who brings victory
Athena Eirinoforos – she who brings peace
Athena Erysiptolis – protector of the city
Athena Polimitin – patriot
Athena Alkidemos – defender of the people
Athena Xenia -protector of strangers
Athena Sotaria – savior
We ask that you consecrate and empower these coins, who have passed through many hands, with your blessings.
May the olive branch call to those who would seek peace before war!
May the oak branch call to those with the strength of character to defend the oppressed against the forces of bigotry and tyranny!
May the Torch of Enlightenment serve as a beacon, to draw those that would allow logic to temper their passions! - Closing (close the ritual as you normally would, and dispose of the offering)
- Distribution (we left them on the property of our local polling places the night before the election)
