Holiday traditions are a staple of cultures across the globe. Tied to them are often small spells, minor cantrips and subtle enchantments that make good use of timing, focus and mythos to create larger lasting change for what seems like very little effort.
When a person steps into the river of that cultural current, they find a treasure-house of spiritual potential. To that end, I’d like to give a very simple favorite of mine: the Bayberry Candle Spell.
The way it was taught to me was to wait until New Year’s Day (either directly after midnight or at any point during the day itself) and light up a Bayberry candle one intends to burn all the way down. When doing so, one speaks the spell “a Bayberry candle, burned to its socket, brings luck to the home and wealth to the pocket.”

This is a great way to start the year off right with a simple act.
Variations on a theme exist, of course. If a Bayberry candle isn’t available I’ve known people to use a simple green or white candle and just omit the word Bayberry from the above incantation.
Candle magic of various kinds is ubiquitous at this point in terms of global spellcraft. Almost to the degree that one has a difficult time conjuring to mind the casting of magic without candles burning somewhere on the altar. We at Practical Occult even have a class on it!
Making use of the first of the year, the power of fire, the spirit of Bayberry for wealth and the storied traditions of all of these things, one can boost one’s wealth and luck in 2025 doing a simple working that takes less than a minute to set in motion. You’d almost be silly not to do it (keeping fire safety in mind, of course. Burning your house down is not a very lucky thing to do).
