A question about an odd occurrence after an angelic conjuration has once again got me thinking about angels and the many ways in which prayers can be answered. As I was writing this blog, another question about natal charts and if they confer an affinity when conjuring related spirits came up so I will touch on that also.
A day after performing a conjuration of Samael, the archangel of Mars, a practitioner had a strange experience where a stranger stopped them on the street and shared some extremely personal information about a domestic violence situation the stranger was experiencing at home.
When asked if this odd experience was related to the conjuration*, I was immediately reminded of interactions I have had with the spirits of Mars, part of which I have previously written about in my first article on the Fifth of Mars https://practicaloccult.com/fifth-of-mars/.
An interesting feature of this pentacle involves reports of a wide variety of spirits coming to aid the bearer. When questioned about which spirits come when the Fifth of Mars is used, spirits replied: “It invoketh in everything the desire to defend the bearer, and to them come in support. It doesn’t matter who comes, by God’s name and power you are defended.”
What I didn’t write in the article was that the spirits said that I am also of the power of Mars. My immediate surprise was replaced by the realization that not only do I regularly conjure martial spirits, but because my sun sign is Scorpio, I have an affinity with Mars.
In my experiences with conjuring the planetary archangels, they seem have a ‘current of energy’ associated with them. Samael’s current is martial. When you are working with these currents of energy you can step into the current as a result of work with the archangel and then you will find yourself as part of those “martial powers”. So, you may find people who need protection will come to you, and may find yourself thinking about people you haven’t seen in a while and then reach out to find that they have martial issues. I am pretty sure this is how a lot of prayers get answered.
Many people see spirit magic as either being about relationship building or transactions, depending on the approach. Perhaps another way to look at it when it comes to planetary magic would be that all these interactions contribute to immersing us as practitioners in the currents of the universe. Correspondences like using certain incense in the rituals would also help to immerse the practitioner.
I would also say that one does not need to conjure spirits to be a part of these currents. Many different esoteric practices likely end up immersing a practitioner in these currents. I would imagine life choices do as well (think archetypes). In keeping with the Mars examples, a professional soldier has likely already become part of this current as a result of their career.
