In a world of so many spirits and so many methods of contacting them, it is a reasonable question to ask. Here at Practical Occult we are no stranger to calling spirits celestial, terrestrial, infernal, elemental and many strange things in between. However, one shouldn’t skip out on a jaunt to the cemetery to stir up some ghosts and set them to task.
For one thing, they were human before. Many of them were human not too long ago. Because of this they have a valuable ability to actually relate to you. While spirits of other kinds are often, admittedly, more powerful, they often lack the understanding of what it is to be human, warts and all, and many can be prone to alien judgements and even more strange methods of trying to solve your problems. The human dead, however, even if they can have their own individual opinions, get it. They yearned as you yearn. They failed as you fail. They forgive because they, themselves, have often needed forgiveness.
Ghosts can have very human specialties, too. A soldier to protect you, a doctor to help heal you (often by inspiring living health care professionals with insights beyond their capacity), experts in many fields to teach you and even spies to help you gather actionable information to use in your daily life. They can take direction and even become genuine friends in the same way living humans can.
Another important reason to give them a shot is because, to put it bluntly, you will end up dying one day, too. A percentage of your bags, so to speak, are already packed for your trip to death’s dream kingdom. Having communication with the dead helps give you a lay of the land and, further, some allies pre-set for you on the other side.
