When most people familiar with Solomonic pentacles think of a health pentacle, the Second of Mars from the Clavicula Solomonis (or Greater Key of Solomon) is the one that comes to mind. However MS Wellcome 4670 (The Veritible Key of Solomon) has two prominent others- a Jupiter health and a solar health. It is noteworthy that according to astrologer William Lilly, Mars, Jupiter, and the Sun are all considered to be of a hot temperament. Heat is considered to make things more active.
Years of testing and collecting feedback have provided insights into some of the effects associated with these pentacles and their spirits. For specific instances divination about the person you are trying to help is recommended. Every health situation is different and though magic should improve situations in some manner, it is hard to say how that will play out. All health pentacles are best worn for personal use, but may also be petitioned to aid others. While Mars is associated with warfare more than health, many health conditions are caused by pathogens, parasites, or the rebellious strainings of the body. Subduing and guarding against these virulent invaders is where Mars shines.
The astrological virtues of the planet Jupiter are associated with expansiveness and metabolism. Unlike Mars and the sun which are considered to be “hot and dry” Jupiter is considered to be “hot and wet.” This seems to manifest in pain reduction, light regeneration, metabolic changes, and it just feels good to wear. Sometimes this pentacle works through a healing sleep.
In astrology the sun is the chief luminary and a source of vitality and life force. Wearing this pentacle will imbue the wearer with more energy and motivation. It will also reduce painful symptoms and help keep the bearer healthy. As the sun is considered to be the strongest force in our solar system, this may be the strongest of the health pentacles.
It is important to note that because these pentacles all work through the offices of spirits, sometimes things work unexpectedly. I have heard of health pentacles pulling strings so folks can get affordable medical treatment they really need, or finally getting a diagnosis that leads to effective treatment after years of questions. In another case the drugs the person was already taking for their condition started to work very effectively. I want to mention all this to drive home that magic is not meant to replace medical treatment but can work very well with it.
One last comment of caution about health magic, is that it can sometimes mask symptoms. This can be a good thing, to make the bearer feel better when they are genuinely unwell, but it can also be a bad thing if people think they are not that sick, don’t seek medical treatment, and don’t take steps to prevent others from getting communicable diseases. As with all things, exercise good judgement.
